SUMMARY:Fraud Awareness
DESCRIPTION:Interested in learning how to avoid being scammed? Join us online via Zoom on Thursday\, August 17th from 4 – 5 p.m. when Evan Diamond of Cambridge Savings Bank will present Fraud Awareness. \nScammers prey upon victims by earning their trust\, by taking advantage of their greed\, and by using scare tactics. They attack through postal mail\, on the internet\, by phone and even by diving into dumpsters. Developing a healthy skepticism will help to protect individuals from these criminals. Attendees will see 6 different scams acted out in “Red Flag Alert” and then discuss each one so that they can develop a keen sensitivity to many of the most common red flags of fraud. \n\n\nRSVP deadline is August 15th.\n \nThe Zoom login will be emailed to registrants by the morning of August 17th.

SUMMARY:Creating Meaningful Activities for Clients Living with Dementia
DESCRIPTION:Working with clients living with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia often creates the need for us to be creative in how we structure our time together with them.  While some clients may still be able to direct how their time is spent with you (or they may have family members that provide direction)\, it is often up to us as caregivers to determine what to do with our clients with cognitive impairment\, balancing both physical and cognitive needs. Join us for this interactive session where SHS caregivers will come together to discuss activity/program ideas that have worked for them and their clients\, and brainstorm new ideas together as well.

SUMMARY:Opening Minds through Art
DESCRIPTION:Join the Goddard House outreach team for an interactive workshop and open your mind through art!\n\n\nOpening Minds through Art (OMA) is an intergenerational art program for people with memory loss that was developed by Dr. Elizabeth Lokon at the Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University in Ohio. Grounded in person-centered ethics\, it was founded on the fact that people with dementia can express themselves creatively. The mission of OMA is to build a bridge across cognitive barriers and age through art.  \n \nCome learn about the benefits of art-making\, and experience OMA’s step-by-step\, “hands-off” approach that empowers individuals to engage in artistic expression and connect with others through images\, regardless of cognitive abilities or art skills.\n\n*Event open to Seniors Helping Seniors caregivers only.*

SUMMARY:Caregiver Support Group for SHS Employees- In Person
DESCRIPTION:Healing Through Our Shared Mourning\n\n\nThe work we do is both uplifting and emotionally challenging. One of the greatest challenges we face is the loss of a meaningful client relationship. Our clients leave us in a variety of ways; they move to be with children\, they stop service when they transition to assisted living\, they die. Sometimes we don’t even have the chance to say “goodbye.” \nDuring this unique opportunity\, we will take the time to acknowledge these losses and to support one another. Group facilitator Sue Ann Wasserman will be joined by Executive Director Josh Obeiter and Associate Executive Director Jan Klein for this meeting. We hope you can make it to this special tribute to your clients and the important bond you shared. \nLocation: In person at the SHS Office\, 330 Bear Hill Road\, Suite 305\, Waltham \nRSVP: Required by Sunday\, March 24\, by clicking the link below only if you can attend…space is limited
