The 2019 Greater Boston Walk to End Alzheimer’s is this Sunday, September 22 and all of us from Seniors Helping Seniors, Greater Boston & Metrowest are thrilled to be participating yet again this year! As you know, Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia touch all of us at SHS, and we’ve all seen firsthand the impact this disease has on individuals, family members, friends and caregivers. This is why we walk.
Also again this year, our very own Executive Director & Owner, Josh Obeiter, is serving as the Chair for the Walk. Our passion for this cause and the incredible work the Alzheimer’s Association does starts right from the top! Currently, more than 5.8 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, including many of our clients and Josh’s own mother, who was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia not long after he established Seniors Helping Seniors, Greater Boston & Metrowest. Alzheimer’s is truly a disease that touches close to home for all of us.
Funds raised from organizations and participants of the Greater Boston Walk to End Alzheimer’s, along with others nationwide, go directly towards Alzheimer’s and dementia care, support, research, awareness and advocacy. Over the past five years, our Seniors Helping Seniors, Greater Boston & Metrowest team has raised more than $30,000 and we’ve had more than 50 of you join us! Last year, the Greater Boston Walk was one of the largest in the country, with more than 8,000 walkers, and our SHS team raised $20,434, with more than $1.4 million raised overall. This year, we have more than 30 walkers/fundraisers on our team and we’ve raised more than $10,400 but are continuing to work to meet and exceed our $15,000 goal!
The Greater Boston Walk to End Alzheimer’s takes place Sunday morning, September 22 at DCR’s North Point Park in Cambridge, MA, right across from the Museum of Science. Registration opens at 8:30am, the ceremony is at 10am and walkers begin at 10:30am. There are both 1.5 and 3.5 mile routes, as well as quick circles around the stage for those eager to walk but unable to commit to the route distances. More information can be found on the Walk here and catch Josh’s news piece promoting the walk on WBZ CBS Boston here.
By 2050, it’s estimated there will be as many as 16 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s, but we’re not giving up, and together we can help find an end to this disease. Please consider joining us for the 2019 Greater Boston Walk to End Alzheimer’s, whether you’re home raising funds and cheering us on, walking with us Sunday, or able to make a donation to our team, all of the support truly means so much to us. Please consider sharing our team page with friends and family, and we’re encouraging everyone to donate just $5– you’d be surprised by how much of a difference even a small amount makes.
