Planning for Caregiving: A Practical and Emotional guide Part 2
May 18 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free
Join Dr. Julie Norstrand, an eldercare consultant, as she shares ideas about preparing for caregiving. Julie finds most caregivers enter this role with little or no planning. Instead, they enter the caregiving role in a crisis situation, thereby making the experience extremely challenging and stressful. This session is optimal for the adult child who is noticing aging-related physical and/or mental or cognitive deterioration in an older relative; and probably starting to worry about how to step in as caregiver.
In this two-part series Julie will first cover the practical step by step approaches to planning for caregiving. The key points you will gain from this session include: 1) Evaluating the situation / when to step in to offer support; 2) What the conversation should consist of / topics to cover; 3) Setting up a plan collaboratively; 4) Paying for LTC; 5) Work/Life balance; and 6) Services and resources for older adults.
In the second part, Julie will speak about ways of managing the emotional challenges that many caregivers experience. The key points you will gain from this session include: 1) What it means to be a caregiver; 2) Caregiver stress syndrome; 3) Emotional stressors; 4) How to manage stress; and 5) Services and resources for caregivers.
